Places to visit in the city

The fortification San Antonio. In a surrounded esplanade of canyons to protect the entrance to the port. January 19 1826 was the day that the last Spanish flag flamed in Chile and it was in fact in this place, on the bay of Ancud.
Mirador Hill Huahuén. Located in a high point in front of the channel Chacao. From there there is an excellent view of the city; it is possible to see the continent coasts and the islands.
Museum Azul of the Islands of Chiloé. It is a sample of the cultural reality of the archipelago where it is exhibited the history and craft of Chiloé. In one of the patios there is a natural size replica of the schooner Ancud that took possession of Magellan's Strait in 1843.
Trips
To the lakes Lonconao and Espolón: there are just 10 kilometers from Futaleufú and only 2 kilometers separate them. Both have hostel and cabins that offer fishing trips and horses in rent. So much in these two beautiful lakes like in the surroundings of the town it is stimulating the installation of hotels and fishing hostels to give to the region international prestige among the lovers of the Fly Casting. In the sector ‘Las Escalas’ is already in operation the exclusive Lodge Futaleufú, where is admitted only the “catch & release” way.
To Port Ramírez, Port Stone and Palena:
leave Futaleufú by the road toward the Southwest. After traveling 20 kilometers you will find the bridge ‘El Azul’. Starting from there you’ll enjoy beautiful views on the river Futaleufú and 16 kilometers ahead you will cross it by the Bridge Futaleufú, from where you will see an impressive rapid where the most fearless lower it in kayak or doing rafting. If you traveli4 more kilometers, being able to observe this fabulous river, you’ll arrive to a camping site where the rafting trips conclude. And 8 kilometers ahead is located Puerto Ramírez where you have to take the road to the left to go to Palena. Before doing it we recommend you to stray 5 kilometers to arrive to Puerto Piedra located in the southeast end of the lake Yelcho, where the river Futaleufú ends. There it is the Hostel Alexis where you can rent fishing boats. 30 kilometers from Puerto Ramírez toward Palena will see a valley of burnt trunks due to a great fire happened in 1940. And in the kilometer 42 will arrive to Palena, a town of 800 inhabitants distant 5 kilometers from the International Step Río Encuentro.
To Trevelín and Esquel, in Argentina:
to the International Step there are 10 kilometers; after that crosses the river Futaleufú and 38 kilometers more is located Trevelín, a Welsh colony from where you can consent to the beautiful National Park ‘Los Alerces’. And 25 kilometers later on you will arrive to Esquel in the Chubut province.
